Well think again.
The Mazda3 first appeared on the market well over a decade ago, and since then it’s grown exponentially in both popularity and as a vehicle. Well-priced and fun to drive, what’s not to love about the Mazda3? But just when you thought the Mazda3 couldn’t possibly add anything better to the mix, they did. Because for the 2019 model year, you can order your Mazda3 with all-wheel drive.
One of the great things about the Mazda3 is the fact that there are two body styles to choose from. If you’re a fan of compact sedans, there’s a Mazda3 for you. However, if hot hatches are your thing then you’ll want to opt for the Mazda3 Sport.
Looking at the 2019 Mazda3 Sport and you’ll quickly realize how far Mazda has come with their exterior designs. You can instantly appreciate how Mazda’s KODO design has evolved and grown over the years, maturing nicely and in all the right ways. From nose to tail, both the compact sedan and hatch version of the Mazda3 are modern and sporty in every sense of the word.
The 2019 Mazda3 has an all-new SKYACTIV-G engine. The previous 2.0L 4-cylinder engine produced 155 horsepower and 150 lb-ft of torque and is still available, however, there is also a new 2.5L inline-four with 186 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque. While all the Mazda3 Sport models can be outfitted with a manual transmission, only the GX and GS compact sedan offer manual as an option.
Hands down, the most interesting update on the 2019 Mazda3 is the announcement and integration of Mazda’s i-Activ AWD system. This all-wheel drive system is programmed to drive the front wheels under normal conditions, however, it can send up to 50% of the power to the rear if it needs. This new i-Activ AWD system works well with Mazda’s G-Vectoring Control that reduces engine torque when heading into a corner at speed to load up the front tires and offer a more responsive turn.
